The winners of first Mary Mulvihill Memorial Awards were announced on the 18th May in an award ceremony held in the National Library in Dublin.
The award worth €2000 was won by an MSc student in world heritage conservation at University College Dublin, Irene Fogarty – who also works as an audience researcher with The Irish Times – for her essay Indigenous Women and Science Knowledge. Irene has very generously offered to donate half of her prize to UN Fund for Gender Equality, in Mary’s memory.
Runners-up in this year’s competition, each of whom received a €200 book token, were Adeleh Mohammadi, a civil engineering PhD student at the National University of Ireland Galway for her essay Appreciating the Past, Living the Present to the full, and Creating the Future, and Anne Burke, who is studying for an MSc in science communication at Dublin City University for her essay (Some) women are tired … Find out more about the award on the Mary Mulvhill Award website →
