How to get to the Hill of Tara

The Hill of Tara is 5 km north of Dunshaughlin, just off the R147 (formerly N3, Dublin-Navan road).  You’ll find it here on Google maps.

Remember! Bring our free information leaflet with you, and our excellent, expert and entertaining audio guided tour. And don’t forget warm clothes and walking shoes.

By car from Dublin: take the N3/M3 north. To avoid the toll section of the M3, follow signs for Dunshaughlin; travel north on the R147 through Dunshaughlin, and after 3 kilometres, follow the signs for Tara. OR take the toll section and exit the M3 at Junction 7 and follow signs for Tara.

Cycling: The side roads around Tara are great for exploring by bike, though we recommend staying off the busy R147.

Public transport: Bus Eireann’s Navan bus 109 will leave you on the main R147 road, about 10 minutes walk from Tara.  (Check other Bus Eireann routes here)  We recommend phoning Bus Eireann for detailed info on routes, stops and times.

  • Our story

We're on a mission! We want everyone to know about the ingenious Irish ideas and inventions that changed the world, and that there's more to Ireland than writers and Riverdance.

How are we doing this? With fascinating Dublin walking tours, talks, and books that are packed with ingenious stories of discoveries and inventions. Come along, and find out for yourself, why we're winning so many plaudits and awards.

As experts in communicating science, we also help people to tell their own story, with media and communications training.
